Primal Scream is a British rock band formed in Glasgow in 1982. Emblematic of the British independent scene of the 80s and 90s, they are known for their ability to mix genres, moving from indie rock to dance, from dub to psychedelic rock.
The band is led by Bobby Gillespie, former drummer of The Jesus and Mary Chain. After a few years of existence, Primal Scream reached fame with “Screamadelica” in 1991. This album, a blend of acid house, rock and gospel, redefined British music, paving the way for a more fluid fusion of rock and dance.
The band continued to experiment with albums such as ‘Vanishing Point’ (1997) and ‘XTRMNTR’ (2000), which explored darker and more political territory. Despite changes in membership and commercial ups and downs, Primal Scream has maintained its relevance through its refusal to conform to any one style or genre.
Over the years, Primal Scream have remained a mainstay of the British alternative scene, offering a bold and innovative sound while remaining true to their rock ‘n’ roll spirit. Their music continues to be a major influence on many bands today.
