Solomon Burke is a legendary soul music artist, known as “King Solomon”, “The King of Rock ‘n' Soul”, “Bishop of Soul” and the “Muhammad Ali of Soul”. Born on 21 March 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Burke began singing at the age of seven in his grandfather's church. He quickly gained a local reputation as a singer and traveling preacher, before signing a recording contract with Atlantic Records in 1960.

During the 1960s, Burke recorded several soul hits, including ‘Cry to Me', ‘Just Out of Reach (Of My Two Open Arms)' and ‘Got to Get You Off My Mind'. His powerful and expressive vocal style is unique and inspired by his roots in gospel music. He has also been praised for his songwriting and performing skills, working with such notable artists as , and Ben E. King.

Although his popularity waned in the 1970s, Burke remained active in the music industry, recording and touring regularly until his death in 2010. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and received numerous other honours for his contribution to soul music.

Beyond his musical career, Burke was also known for his humanitarian work as a pastor and founder of Solomon's Temple Church in Philadelphia. He dedicated his life to helping others and spreading a message of peace and love through music.
