1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die
A good musical resolution
Claude François, who was born in 1939 and tragically died in 1978, is an emblematic figure of French song. With his hit songs and his electric stage presence, he left his mark on generations of fans.
Born in Egypt, Claude François had a meteoric rise to success in the 1960s with songs such as “Belles, belles, belles” and “Comme d’habitude” – the latter of which was adapted into English by Paul Anka to become Frank Sinatra’s famous “My Way”.
Between his haunting melancholy and his boundless energy, symbolised by the choreography of his “Clodettes”, Claude François breathed new life into French variety music, establishing a unique bond with the public.
Despite his untimely death, Claude François’ legacy lives on. “CloClo” remains an indelible figure in French pop, an artist whose music continues to touch and inspire.
