The White Stripes are an American rock duo formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan, by Jack White (vocals, guitar) and Meg White (drums). Their minimalist and energetic style, which blends garage rock, punk and blues, quickly propelled them into the international music spotlight.
The band gained popularity with the release of their third album, “White Blood Cells” (2001), which contained hits such as “Fell in Love with a Girl” and “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground”. However, it was with ‘Elephant’ (2003) and its iconic single ‘Seven Nation Army’ that The White Stripes enjoyed massive commercial success.
The duo, who claimed to be brother and sister despite their former marriage, were also known for their strictly red, white and black colour scheme. After the release of six studio albums and numerous concerts, The White Stripes broke up in 2011. Jack White has since pursued a solo career and collaborated with other musical projects, but the duo’s legacy remains embedded in modern rock history.
