Dave Day, born David John Havlicek on December 8, 1944 in Minneapolis, United States, is an American guitarist known for his participation in the experimental rock band The Monks.
Active in the 1960s, the band is composed of former American soldiers based in Germany. They are known for their unusual look (shaved heads in tonsure) and their avant-garde sound, which mixes garage rock and proto-punk.
As a member of the Monks, Dave Day plays 6-string guitar and banjo guitar. Their only album, “Black Monk Time” (1966), became a cult classic and influenced many artists. Despite their short-lived career, Dave Day and the Monks have left an indelible mark on rock history.
