Karl Remy, born September 21, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois, United States, is an American bassist known for his participation in the 1960s avant-garde rock band the Monks.
Composed of former American soldiers stationed in Germany, the Monks were known for their distinctive appearance (shaved heads in tonsure) and their innovative blend of garage rock and proto-punk. As a member of the band, Karl Remy was the bassist, contributing to the Monks’ distinctive sound with his powerful and rhythmic bass lines.
Their only album, ‘Black Monk Time’ (1966), became a cult classic and influenced countless artists thereafter. Although the Monks had a short-lived career, Karl Remy and his bandmates left an indelible mark on rock history.
