Sabu Martinez grew up in New York and began his career playing in salsa and jazz bands in the 1950s and 1960s. He has also recorded several albums as a leader and guest musician.
His music is influenced by Latin and Cuban rhythms, as well as jazz and modern Latin music. He is considered one of the most important percussionists of his generation.
